Like Joanna Connor and Sue Foley, Debbie Daviess first love was playing guitar. Writing good songs and developing her vocal chops came about later for this Los Angeles native, now living in Connecticut.
Born to musician parents in Los Angeles, Davies cut her teeth in the San Francisco Bay area, playing blues and rock & roll for a time in college. Back in Los Angeles in 1986, she joined Maggie Mayall and the Cadillacs, an all-female R&B band led by John Mayalls wife. Subsequently, she joined Albert Collinss Icebreakers in the late 80s. Collins used Davies to open his shows, and as part of Collinss band for three years, she got to play dueling guitars nightly with Collins while traveling throughout the U.S., Europe, and Canada. In 1991, Davies became lead guitarist for Fingers Taylor and the Ladyfingers Revue, a band made up of many of the nations best female musicians. This group opened for Jimmy Buffetts Outpost Tour.
Davies takes most of her inspiration from the two blues guitar masters that shes paid the most attention to, her late boss Albert Collins and Eric Clapton. As a talented songwriter, vocalist, and most importantly, ensemble guitar player, Davies has been leading her own band since September, 1991. She has two excellent albums for the San Francisco-based Blind Pig label, Picture This (1993) and Loose Tonight (1994). Round Every Corner appeared on Shanchie in 1998, and the following year Davies released Tales From The Austin Motel.
