Seeing Chet Atkins on television with the Boston Pops orchestra inspired Doug Smith to develop a fingerpicking style with a marvelous flow uniquely his own. Over time while playing in rock bands, Doug also transformed his thrust from nylon string acoustic guitar, thru bass, and then electric, and even classical.
Doug Smith again changed his playing direction at the end of the 70s when he became absorbed in using alternate tunings on the steel string guitar.
Doug has played guitar for the soundtracks of Hollywood movies, including Twister and Moll Flanders. Hes made several recordings, been the opening act for major performers, and a feature on some of NPRs (National Public Radio) shows.
Doug Smith uses Dean Markley Alchemy strings.
When Doug Smith first got to use Alchemy he exclaimed:
Today I put the GoldPhos mediums on my Jumbo Goodall. I have a question
Are you sure these are coated strings? Wow! They are resonant, brilliant, and the bass response is great. All of my tunes sound great on the Alchemy strings. Thanks again!
I just mastered my new CD I wish Id had these strings earlier!
Also
I found out another great thing about Alchemy. I use an EMG magnetic sound-hole pickup on my Goodall, and I usually have to use Bronze strings if Im playing acoustically, or switch to Nickel strings if I use the pickup. Your strings sound great in both cases!
