Greg E Noll

Guitarist/ singer Greg E. Noll is probably best known for his fretwork with 80’s metal rockers, Villain (featuring the late Carl Albert). Their debut album, “Only Time Will Tell,” continues to be reissued in different parts of the world to this day.

“That first album has really gained this kind of cult status,” says Noll. “I still get e-mails and even phone calls from people all over the globe asking about it. I’ve affectionately nicknamed it ’The Thing That Wouldn’t Die.’ It’s pretty gratifying to have been part of something that still means so much to so many people.”

These days, Greg is still playing guitar for a living. Besides his weekly teaching gig, he can be heard holding down the lead guitar slot with hard rockers, Crazy Ivan (www.Crazy-Ivan.com), who are currently promoting their debut album, Astronautical, as well as touring with funk-rock outfit, The Wrigley Figlet Orchestra. Noll is also writing songs for his upcoming solo project, Slow Motion Hurricane.

For strings, Greg uses Dean Markley Signature Series (.010 - .046) NickelSteel on his electrics, and on his acoustics, he prefers Alchemy Goldphos (.012 - .054).

“When I’m playing electric guitar, I need my strings to be bright on the top, but I also need to be able to hear that low-end thump on the bottom when I palm mute. The Signature Series NickelSteels give me the range of tone my ears want to hear out of my amp,” Noll says.

About the new Alchemy acoustic strings, Greg had this to say:

“I’ve tried every coated string on the market, and the thing I liked most about the Alchemy strings was that they didn’t have that ’dead’ sound when I put them on, like a lot of coated strings seem to. The Alchemys were bright right out of the package, and retained that ’like-new’ tone show after show. Dean Markley has definitely done it again!”

Greg uses Alchemy GoldPhos™ gauged 12-54 (CL).?He also uses NickelSteel Electrics gauged 10-46 (REG).
