Kampfar

The beginnings of Kampfar date back to 1994, as Jon bid farewell to his former band Mock and recruited Thomas to take on the guitar responsibilities to release the MCD “Kampfar”. The self-titled MCD was followed by the full-length album “Mellom Skogkledde Aaser” in 1997.

With two releases under their belt, Kampfar continued to write and produce new material, exploring new lyrical territory and presenting their fans with their first English lyrics. The song was part of MCD “Norse.” In 1999, Kampfar released their second full-length entitled “Fra Underverdenen,” a darker and more emotional work.

After bass player Jon and drummer II13 joined the band in the summer of 2003, Kampfar focused on writing new material and finally accepted one of the numerous offers to play live. The band chose to premiere at the Moshfest festival in Halden. The show’s success resulted in numerous Norwegian gigs and the band’s first mini tour of Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands.

In November 2005, Kampfar entered Silvertone Studio in Gamle Fredrikstad to record “Kvass.” It was well received by the metal press, and the band performed at numerous festivals including legendary Wacken and With Full Force and a tour of Europe.

Kampfar delivers raw Pagan Folklore Metal as it is meant to be heard. Piercing riffs, driving drums, and catchy melodies shape their latest CD “Heimgang,” but the scepter can only fully swing with the help of charismatic front man Jon, whose unmistakable and unique vocal approach gives the songs their finishing touch. Lyrically the album deals with crossing over into the underworld, as told in Nordic myths and legends. “Heimgang” proves that alongside Darkthrone and Satyricon, Kampfar remains a forerunner and one of the last true originals of the scene.

Jon says:
I play my bass hard. On stage the strings get a pretty rough treatment. The most important thing when I’m up there, is that my equipment survive. Bass strings have to be made of such quality that they don’t break, yet they stay tuned, create groovy sound, and are comfortable to play. After trying out different brands, my choice was easy! Dean Markley makes the perfect strings out there!
Thanx!!!
