Starting his music career at the age of eight as a trumpet player with his father/mentor, Michael switched to guitar, and then to bass when he was a teenager. After playing in a few local LA bands, he played with the band, Snake on the same circuit as the band, Mammoth, which was eventually renamed to Van Halen.
Through a suggestion from a friend, Michael was asked to jam with the brothers Van Halen. Upon doing so, they invited him to join the band. In 1978, Van Halen released their first album. With pure musicianship and colorful theatrics, the band captured the world by storm. With a career spanning three decades, the band has racked up numerous gold and platinum awards worldwide, and is one of a handful of bands to receive awards for having two of their albums (Van Halen and 1984) exceed sales of ten million copies each.
Michael Anthony gets his awards using Dean Markley Custom gauged SR2000 and Blue Steel Bass exclusively.
