Nikki Sixx-renaissance man, is an American bassist, acclaimed author of The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star., photographer, and the main songwriter for the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. Born Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna, Jr., December 11, 1958, Nikki has been an enduring mainstay on the rock scene since the 1980’s.
Nikki Sixx founded Mötley Crüe with drummer Tommy Lee in 1981, later being joined by guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil. The band’s debut album, Too Fast for Love, was self-released and then re-released when the band signed with Elektra Records. That was followed by Shout at the Devil, which brought the band to national fame.
In 1989, the band produced their most successful record, Dr. Feelgood, with producer Bob Rock. The album stayed on the charts for 114 weeks after its release.
Vince Neil surprisingly left the band at the peak of their popularity in early 1992, with the band soldiering on with replacement John Corabi. The new Crüe released a single album, 1993’s self-titled release, and Neil was welcomed back to the fold by the late ’90s, resulting in their reunion album in 1997, Generation Swine.
Nikki wrote most of Mötley Crüe's material, including past tracks such as "Live Wire", "Home Sweet Home", "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Kickstart My Heart" and "Dr. Feelgood".
In 2006 Mötley Crüe completed a reunion tour featuring all four original members and embarked on a co-headlining tour with Aerosmith, called "The Route of All Evil". On June 24, 2008, Mötley Crüe released their ninth studio album, Saints of Los Angeles, with Sixx credited as either writer or co-writer on all tracks.
Besides his Mötley Crüe duties, Nikki also had side projects and bands such as bassist for glam metal band London, the experimental band 58 (issuing their debut album in 2000, Diet for a New America). In 2003 Nikki released an album with his hard rock band Brides of Destruction: Here Come The Brides, and more recently, Sixx:A.M. with friend and co-conspirator, DJ Ashba.
