Scott Huckabays self-description as a sonic alchemist may seem like a stroke of promotional embellishment, yet the tag genuinely captures his inventive approach to crafting acoustic-trance soundscapes.
A seasoned performer, Scott Huckabay has opened for artists such as Jackson Brown, Sarah McLachlan, Bob Weir, Bonnie Raitt, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Chicago, and Joe Satriani.
Huckabay lives and breathes as a one-man-band on stage. Live looping, layering acoustic rhythms and percussive textures into a rich, holistic union, Huckabay dabs from an extensive sonic palette, incorporating lush modal voicings, two-hand tapping, harmonics, helixing rhythms, percussive pounding, ankle-bell foot percussions, use of violin bow and ebows.
Scott is a self-taught, left-handed acoustic guitar sensation. This powerful and electrifying musician whose guitar wizardry flows from deep within his soul will take you on a power-packed mystical journey covering unlimited musical territory. A master of open tunings, Huckabay has developed more than 300 open guitar tunings and is reshaping the acoustic instrumental genre. A descendent of the southern Arizona Chiricahua native tribe, Scotts musical inspiration comes from swimming with dolphins for a year during a recovery from a major motorcycle accident, leading to his mission to inspire people all over the world with his music.
To get an idea of Scott’s open tuning, check out his preferred guitar strings, a custom set of Dean Markley NickelSteel Electrics (.14plain, .18plain, .22plain, .48nickel, .58nickel, .68nickel).
As Scott explains:
“Dean Markley strings rock and have an incredible endurance to my style of stage performance. The way I play, most strings usually last about 60 minutes on stage, but the Dean Markley strings last twice as long. I also use the Tahoe soundhole pickup on my custom left handed Taylor 610 guitar. It makes a beautiful warm sound especially when I tap harmonics.”
