Walter Becker

While at Bard College, Walter Becker met fellow student Donald Fagen, sharing common interests in jazz, blues, and popular music. After a few years of collaborating on songs and playing in bands, the pair finally recorded their first album “Can’t Buy A Thrill” under the guise of Steely Dan in 1972. During the early seventies Walter assumed the role of lead guitar player in the band and has played some of the most memorable lead lines and solos, mixing their rock and roll roots with slick jazz phrasings provided by Donald Fagen at the keyboards. The band’s various configurations have produced some of the most prolific music of the time, resulting in “The Royal Scam,” “Aja,” and “ Gaucho.”

Walter Becker plays Dean Markley Blue Steel™ Electric Regular gauge guitar strings to keep his music sounding it’s best.
